Star: Alphard (Alpha Hydrae)
Stellar Classification: K3III ~giant star

Background Information: Alphard belongs to the Hydra constellation. This star's Arabic meaning is "the solitary one," since there are no brighter stars in the sky near it. Alphard is 3 times the mass and 50 times the radius of our sun. The Hydra constellation is the biggest of the 88 modern constellations, and is looks like a water snake.
