Class Questions

Class Questions:

  1. Identifying a plant/root correctly is important because if one were to pick the wrong plant for medicinal uses, it could harm or kill them.
  2. It would be prudent to know a variety of species from other regions when dealing with natural medicines and food because you would want to know several different plants that you could use if you got caught in a situation in that area. Also, knowing the flora in the other region may inspire and enable you to identify them or related flora in your own region.
  3. I would make a significant difference if I were traveling in different season, because depending on the season, different plant may or may not be available. For example, in the spring-fall, all parts of the purple cone-flower are available. However, in the winter, only the roots may be available. You would want to know remedies of different plant for each season.
  4. As a scientist, it would be significant to develop a relationship with local peoples about their plant habitat in order to encourage them to preserve their environment and to teach them how their health could benefit from using the flora. You may also learn information from the local peoples and what plants they personally use for medicine.
  5. If I were found without traditional medicines, I would trust my (or a reference text's) knowledge of flora to treat illness or disease since I have deeply researched the subject. Through this project, I have learned many new things about how flora found in my environment can be used for my benefit.
